You can pronounce every sound in a word perfectly and still not be understood — if the stress is on the wrong syllable. Native listeners recognise words by their shape first: which syllable is loud, long and high.

Say deSERT instead of DEsert and you have changed the word. Say comFORtable and people will need a second to decode it.

ጭነቱ በትክክል ምንድነው

• louder, ይልቅ ድምጽ ከፍ ይሆናል።
• longer, የተረጋገጥ ጊዜ ይዞታል።
• higher in pitch, የድምጽ ከፍታ ከፍ ይሆናል።
• and has a full, clear vowel — while the syllables around it often weaken to a schwa /ə/.

English stress is not random. These rules are not perfect, but they are right far more often than guessing:

• eCOnomy → ecoNOmic
• Educate → eduCAtion

ጭነቱን እንዴት ልልምድ እንደሚችሉ

1. ቃሉን ሲናገሩ በጭነቱ ላይ ወይም በላይ በሚገኝ ሲላብል ጠቅላላ ወይም በሰንበት ላይ ይታገዙ።
2. ተጨማሪ ያድርጉ፡ እንደተፈጥሮ ሁለት ጊዜ ይረዱ።
3. ከዚያ ሌሎች ሲላብሎችን ዝም ብለው ፈጣን ያደርጉ።
