You can pronounce every sound in a word perfectly and still not be understood — if the stress is on the wrong syllable. Native listeners recognise words by their shape(형태) first: which syllable is loud, long and high.
Say deSERT instead of DEsert and you have changed the word. Say comFORtable and people will need a second to decode it.
강세가 실제로 무엇인지
강세가 있는 음절은:
- louder (더 크게),
- longer (더 길게),
- higher in pitch (음높이가 더 높게),
- and has a full, clear vowel — while the syllables around it often weaken to a schwa

English stress is not random. These rules are not perfect, but they are right far more often than guessing:
