როგორ გამოვლინოთ -ed დასრულებები: /t/, /d/ ან /ɪd/

"Worked" ერთი სილაბუსია, "wanted" ორი. სამი მარტივი წესია წარსული დროის -ed დასრულებებისთვის, რომელიც უმეტესმა სასწავლომისწავლენმა არ იცის.

Learners often pronounce every -ed ending as a full extra syllable: “work-ed”, “play-ed”, “jump-ed”. Native speakers almost never do. In fact, most -ed endings add no syllable at all.

სწავლებლები ხშირად ყველა -ed დასრულებას როგორც სრულ დამატებით სილაბუსად წარმოთქვამენ: “work-ed”, “play-ed”, “jump-ed”. მშობლიური საუბარი თითქმის არასოდეს აკეთებს ამას. სინამდვილეში, უმეტეს -ed დასრულებებს სილაბუსის გარეშე.

There are three ways to say -ed, and the rule depends only on the last sound of the verb.

‑ed‑ის გამოსახვის სამი გზა არსებობს, და წესი დამოკიდებულია მხოლოდ ქმედის ბოლო ხმაზე.

Rule 1 — /ɪd/: after /t/ or /d/

წესი 1 — /ɪd/: /t/ ან /d/ შემდეგ

When the verb already ends in a /t/ or /d/ sound, you need an extra syllable, otherwise you could not hear the ending:

როცა ქმედის დასასრული უკვე /t/ ან /d/ ხმაზეა, საჭიროა დამატებითი სილაბუსი, რადგან წინააღმდეგ შემთხვევაში დასრულება ვერ შეგვიძლია გავისმინოთ:

  • want → wanted /ɪd/
  • need → needed /ɪd/
  • decide → decided /ɪd/

This is the only case where -ed is a separate syllable.

ეს ერთ-ერთი შემთხვევაა, როდესაც -ed ცალკე სილაბუსია.

Rule 2 — /t/: after voiceless sounds

წესი 2 — /t/: ხმაურზე ბეჭდვის გარეშე

After a voiceless sound (/p/, /k/, /s/, /ʃ/, /tʃ/, /f/, /θ/) the ending is a short, quiet /t:

ხმაურზე ბეჭდვის გარეშე (/p/, /k/, /s/, /ʃ/, /tʃ/, /f/, /θ/) დასრულება მოკლე, მშვიდი /t არის:

  • work → worked /wɜːkt/
  • stop → stopped /stɒpt/
  • watch → watched /wɒtʃt/
  • laugh → laughed /lɑːft/

Rule 3 — /d/: after everything else

წესი 3 — /d/: სხვა ყველა შემთხვევაში

After vowels and voiced sounds the ending is a soft /d:

ხმაურის შემდეგ (ხმოვანი და ხმამაღლებული) დასრულება ნაზი /d არის:

  • play → played /pleɪd/
  • live → lived /lɪvd/
  • call → called /kɔːld/

Quick check: put your hand on your throat and say the last sound of the verb. Buzz → /d/. No buzz → /t/. A /t/ or /d/ already there → /ɪd/.

სწრაფი შემოწმება: დაიმატეთ თქვენი ხელის თითი ყისზე და გამოთქვით ქმედის ბოლო ხმა. ბუზი → /d/. ბუზის გარეშე → /t/. /t/ ან /d/ უკვე არსებობს → /ɪd/.

Practise with a mini story

პრაქტიკით მოკლე ამბით

I walked home, opened the door, and wanted to sleep. Then I remembered I needed to cook. I washed some rice and called my friend.

(გაითვალისწინეთ, რომ walked, opened, wanted, needed, washed, called - ყველა -ed დასრულება.)

Count the syllables as you read. Walked and washed are one syllable each; only wanted and needed grow.

გათვალეთ სილაბუსები, როდესაც წაიკითხავთ. Walked და washed თითოეული ერთი სილაბუსია; მხოლოდ wanted და needed იზრდება.
